Sunscreen & Sun Damage Remedies

Seabuckthorn, Shea Butter, Organic Virgin Coconut, Zinc Oxide

It is summer and if you are anything like me, you love the sun! We don't get alot of hot sun here in Montana so when we do, we like to spend time soaking it up! Moderate sun exposure is actually good for you. Our bodies were designed to soak up nutrients from the sun much like plants and flowers but, of course, we humans like to overdue. But Nature has its remedies for over-exposure and damage caused by the sun. One of the best is the amazing seabuckthorn berry.

Known scientifically as Hippophae rhamnoides, this nutrient-rich plant has a unique combination of fatty acids, vitamins and minerals that help restore damaged tissue back to its glowing, healthy state. The oil derived from the seed and fruit pulp has a long history as a food and medicine in the Chinese culture. This fabulous oil contains 80-95% fatty acids, including ample oleic and linolenic acids. But its real weapon for restoring the skin is the rare palmitoleic acid which is an omega-7 and a natural component of skin.

In addition to the plentiful fatty acids, seabuckthorn fruit and seed oil also contains the potent antioxidant pranthocyanidin, an abundance of vitamin C, plentiful carotenes and vitamin E. As if the nutrition was not enough, seabuckthorn fruit and seed oil helps to block UV rays making it effective in sunburn prevention!

I invite you to purchase a copy of the July/August 2006 Alternative Medicine magazine to read more about the scientific studies on seabuckthorn for burn healing and also an informative and important article about sunscreens and their potential harm to the body.

The Myrtle Leaf has been including seabuckthorn fruit and seed oils in our products for years. Although it is NOT classified as a "sunscreen," for moderate, daily protection our Essential Nutrients Rich Moisture Butter is uniquely effective. It not only contains seabuckthorn but also contains zinc oxide, shea butter and NOW organic, virgin coconut oil for added protection from the sun's rays.

Other products that contain seabuckthorn are: Essential Nutrients For The Face, Light Nourishment moisturizer, Herbal Replenishing Serum, Rose Regenerating Around the Eye Oil, Lemon Eye Gel and Esther's Blend Therapeutic Body Moisturizer.

The bottom line is enjoy the gift of the sun but, like anything else, be sensible and responsible. Avoid burning and prolonged, direct exposure....wear a hat, wear "healthy sunscreen" and use any of The Myrtle Leaf's products containing seabuckthorn after sun exposure at least once a day.
